Wangari Maathai




Wangari Maathai was the first African woman who received the Nobel Peace prize. She was also the first woman in East and Central Asia who earned a doctorate degree. Her movement -The Green Belt- led to the planting of some 30 million trees, provided jobs and income to thousands of women. She died on September 25th 2011.
